Center Valley, Pa. - Army's Carl Fisher was selected as the Patriot League Men's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row and was one of 32 student-athletes named to the 2006 academic honor roll, announced Executive Director Carolyn Schlie Femovich Tuesday. Army's Rick Houghton and Lehigh's Randall Smalley both achieved a grade-point average of 4.00 or above during the spring semester.

Fisher graduated from the U.S. Military Academy with a 3.71 cumulative grade-point average and a degree in economics. He garnered the Superintendent's Award and was named to the Dean's List for both semesters of the 2005-06 academic year and was recognized on the ESPN The Magazine Academic At-Large District I team.

Fisher owned a 13-10 (5-2 Patriot League) singles record and led the Black Knights to their second-straight Patriot League Championship title and NCAA Tournament appearance. The 2006 Patriot League Player of the Year ranks eighth all-time at Army with 52 singles wins and is tied for sixth with 54 doubles victories.

Army has claimed five Patriot League Men's Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, including Rae Cho in 1998, Travis Burns in 1999 and 2000 and Fisher in 2005 and 2006.

To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the spring semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the Patriot League's six winter or 10 spring championship sports.

A total of 974 student-athletes were named to the Patriot League's Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll, which includes the sports of men and women's basketball, men and women's swimming and diving, men and women's indoor track and field, baseball, golf, men and women's lacrosse, rowing, men and women's outdoor track and field, softball and men and women's tennis.
